Founded in 1995 during the first International Conference of Welsh Studies hosted by the Madog Center for Welsh Studies, NAASWCH's mission multidisciplinary, multicultural, and educationally driven. The organization seeks to bring together scholars, teachers, and independent researchers dedicated to advancing scholarship on Welsh Studies; supporting the study of Welsh American culture and history; and fostering conversations across national borders, and with the Welsh-American community.

Towards these ends, NAASWCH holds a biennial conference where scholars from many disciplines including history, literature, languages, art, social sciences, political science, pedagogy, philosophy, music, and religion present and discuss the results of their research.
